Resources

In addition to BG101, there are several other tools, apps, and websites that can help you improve your gameplay.

Flashcards

  • Ankigammon A free app to turn your blunders into flash cards. You can provide it with position IDs (such as XGIDs) or match files, and it will automatically generate Anki flashcards. These cards can then be uploaded to your Anki account directly from the app.
  • Flashback A flashcard webapp that comes pre-loaded with high-quality decks, including the match equity table, openings at different scores, opening replies, and all the positions from different books such as Backgammon Bootcamp and the Backgammon Encyclopedia.
  • XG2Anki A paid service to convert XGIDs into Anki flashcards. They also sell many high quality prepared decks.
  • XGID2anki A command-line-based alternative to Ankigammon.
  • blunderDB A database for aggregating and categorizing blunders.

Puzzles / Quizzes

  • BGquiz.com A website with many quizzes to help you practice specific backgammon skills. For example, there are complete quizzes for nearly all of the opening replies or last roll cube decisions.
  • BGtrain.com A position database with positions to help you practice.
  • Backgammon Trainer A small app that I built to help you practice a few technical skills, such as pip counting and iSight counting.
  • Opengammon Opengammon is an online gaming site first, but it uses real blunders from live gameplay to generate puzzles. Users are also encouraged to write comments explaining the correct moves in the quizzes. There are also quizzes for pip counting and other puzzle formats.
